How to use it with operations and engineering
The recommended start is with the terms that appear in tickets, handoffs, and downtime reports. That is where aliases and abbreviations generate the highest hidden cost.
Once the highest-volume or most ambiguous terms are identified, the CSV can become a reference table for forms, search engines, or data-cleaning processes.
Where it creates real impact
It creates impact in multi-plant networks, ERP/MES integrations, and RAG projects where retrieval fails because each site labels the same asset or event differently.
It also reduces unnecessary debates between local experts and central teams by making clear what is a synonym, what is an exception, and what truly requires a separate definition.
When not to use it as a final dictionary
It should not be treated as the final version of truth. Operating naming evolves with new lines, suppliers, languages, and process changes.
It is also not useful if no one maintains the glossary or if it fills with terms that lack approval criteria. A living glossary needs ownership.
